Dragon in Kimono 4.14-2

"The representation of dragon pattern"

Kimonos have some patterns and motifs. Do you know what each pattern represents?

"Dragon" is considered as a final form of carp fish. In old telling, a carp transforms to a dragon in the jorney of criming the river.
Only carp can do this. So Dragon represents the social success and the skill of survival.
"Carps crimimg the river" is the important motif to celebrate children's day in Japan on May 5th. In this memorial day, peopele carry the carp symbols in the gardens and in the houses to make wish that their children can grow strong and achieve their dreams as carps.
